Senior Leadership Program
The Senior Leadership Program at Vermont Commons School is based on the premise that one of the most important resources in any high school is its students. Vermont Commons recognizes the influence that teen peers have on one another, and it seeks to utilize this influence toward the growth of all students and the betterment of the school. By developing the interpersonal and leadership skills of students, the Senior Leadership Program strives to make students more aware of their role in society as sensitive, responsible, thinking individuals and to increase their sense of self-worth, tolerance, and empathy.
At the beginning of each academic year, the Senior Class is trained to be effective listeners, group facilitators, and role models. Working in pairs, the Seniors meet once a month with groups of underclass students to focus on peer relationships, pressures, and other issues important to the school. There is a focus on empowering students to take an active role in making Vermont Commons School what they want it to be.
