Hobbies

  • Birding, hiking, fishing, reading, writing the odd poem, watching movies, tinkering about the house, hanging with my family and friends.
     

Personal Statement

Over the past six years as an educator, I believe that what has made me the most successful, what has helped me forge the most positive and productive rapport with my students and has reinforced time and again a sense of real commitment to the fullness of my profession, is the belief that a teacher should enter the classroom as the Socratic student-eternal, enflamed with a passion for learning and ever open to the possibilities of a world yet truly to be known. Not only does this attitude in the classroom model the skills and modes of engagement we desire for our students; it also fosters an atmosphere of openness and collaboration-a sense that we are fellow travelers, mutually engaged in a common culture of learning, sharing, and growing. As long as I teach, I desire to maintain what Shunryu Suzuki called a "beginner's mind" and share joys of discovery and learning with my students and hopefully inspire a greater degree of inquisitiveness about the world and a sense of true engagement in them as well.
