Social Science
The social science curriculum attempts to understand human culture within the frameworks of history, sociology, anthropology, economics and psychology. In social science, students utilize a set of methodologies that enables them to understand the structure and function of various cultural institutions, the ways that humans use symbolic communication to create meaning and value, how institutions and social systems change over time, and the effect of the environment on the individual and his or her culture.
The social sciences integrate skills in mathematics, science, reading and writing to help students develop an understanding of the interaction between human cultures and the natural world. The integration of literature in the social sciences gives depth and meaning to the study of the evolving relationship between humans and their environment. The social science curriculum also integrates the emerging disciplines of modeling and systems thinking.
