The Commons Co-Op

The Vermont Commons Co-Op has been working to lower the energy consumption of the school community. During the first year of the Co-Op, the students lowered the school's electricity consumption by over 10% and created a carbon sequestration project. In the second year of the Co-Op, students continued to perform the energy and ecological accounting of the school. The students reviewed ways to develop sustainable energy sources, alone or in partnership with other businesses, and to improve ecological restoration projects by developing more sophisticated ways of creating bio-diverse carbon sinks.
