English as a Second Language (ESL) Tutoring
This course combined study of Burlington 's Somali Bantu refugee population with weekly tutoring of Bantu students at Barnes Elementary School in the city's Old North End. Each participating VCS student was a designated "buddy" for 2-3 Bantu students, with whom they worked every field day throughout the course. Classroom activities included researching the Bantu people and pedagogical strategies for language tutors.
